Martin Hautus Institute of Learning Samoa (MHILS) exists to empower the people of Samoa through providing quality education and training. This will enable participants to pathway into employment or higher education.
It was registered with Samoa Qualifications Authority in October 2013. It will commence its programmes in Tourism and Hospitality on 22 April 2014 to the people of Samoa. Enrolment will begin on 31 March 2014.
The Institute will be managed by the Founders, Pulotu Arthur Solomon who holds a New Zealand Trained Certificate (TTC) and Bachelor of Education-Adult Teaching (B/Ed) and Maretta Tuasivi Solomon who holds a Diploma in Management (DipMgt) and Bachelor of Education-Adult Teaching (B/Ed) and a Member of New Zealand Institute of Tourism and Travel (MNZITT). They are also Founders of Martin Hautus the Pacific Peoples Learning Institute in New Zealand and have acquired Category One with New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2011 review process.
MHILS will work in partnership with the employers of Samoa to provide relevant and required skills for the students to better transition to the workplaces. We thank those who have already indicated their participation in this project.
This qualification has been specifically designed for secondary school students which provides an introduction to the tourism industry. It recognizes the knowledge and skills required as a base for further training in the tourism industry.
Successful completion of this course provides students with an overview of the structure of the tourism industry, students will identify careers within the industry and students will identify the skills, attitudes and knowledge requirements of those careers.
The compulsory section ensures people awarded with this qualification are able to demonstrate knowledge of tourist characteristics and needs, the business of tourism destination Samoa, world tourist destinations, and work roles in tourism.
